23/02/1950 – 23/05/2026

With profound melancholy we observe the passing of the endlessly wonderful Helen.

Loved unfathomably deeply by her three boys, Joshua who fit the battle of Jericho, the mighty Oliver Twist and “Doona Dan” Daniel.

The little lioness cub of her father Dimitri/Jim and mother Thelma, she knew she would rejoin with them upon sailing into the mystic.

Sister to her little brother George who she loved so much.

And Neil, the love of her life and father of her three boys.

Helen was an incredibly gifted and creative person; her legacy will live on in everything she made.

Her beautiful heart will always remain in ours.

In accordance with Helen’s wishes, cremation will be followed by a humble, personal funeral.

Helen and I met in Noojee, where she lived in the mud brick house she built with Neil and her young boys.
She was a talented textile artist, politically aware, passionate about life.

When Neil and then the boys left home, she got a bit wild, sharing her exploits with me. She often said,’I asked myself, “What will Lesley say about that?”’before launching into another relationship or scheme.

She bought a farm and machinery, sold that and bought a boat, and learned to sail.
She visited her beloved Greece and attended language school whilst there.
She taught herself all about gemstones and precious metals, travelling to Asia to learn about and purchase them, then fashioned them into beautiful pieces.

Helen put all of herself into her interests.

Helen’s life was well lived.

Helen and I met about 25 years ago, working as teacher-librarians at Pakenham High School. We became good friends pretty much immediately, recognising a kindred spirit in each other. I had started teaching late in life and benefited greatly from her mentorship. She really impressed me with technical skills, her confidence in buying and selling properties and her independence. We talked and laughed a lot.
When she moved to south west Victoria we kept in touch for years on the phone but unfortunately despite good intentions we never saw each other again.I was amazed how she quit teaching and followed her dream of making jewellery. She was so creative and talented and prolific in her art. I followed her work with interest. Goodbye dear Helen.

Helen was just such a wonderful person to us in every way, as a neighbour, friend, skilled craftsperson and highly creative artist. She had a lovely shining personality, which gave much to everyone. We will miss you very much. Rest in peace now.

Helen was a truly wonderful teacher who always believed in me, even during the toughest times. Her endless encouragement, kindness, and unwavering support made more of a difference than she would ever know. She always had my back, offered guidance when I needed it most, and helped me find confidence in myself. I’m glad I got to share this with her before she passed.

Helen was a talented lapidary and silversmith who contributed to the Warrnambool Gem Club as President, show coordinator and silver work instructor. She participated in club trips to S.A. and traded at Gem Shows throughout Victoria and N.S.W. She will be missed by many. Rest in peace Helen.

Helen cared about others, and loved her kids; she was capable and generous. Rest in peace Helen. Carole from Killarney.
