I had lunch with Yvonne and other cousins recently, we shared Great grand parents. Yvonne was such a lady. RIP Safely Home. 🙏💕
I met Yvonne in the early 2000s and she become a valued friend. We shared many chats, messages and laughs plus the occasional meal out. With shared history and art interests Yvonne joined me at the Craigieburn Historical Interest Group. She bought so much knowledge to the group due to her family’s involvement in Craigieburn and surrounds. Yvonne became President and she held this position until the group closed in 2025. She advocated for all our records be held at the Broadmeadows Historical Society Museum where she continued working on the Craigieburn records.
Yvonne had a passion for purchasing paintings for herself, family and friends. She hardly missed any of the local art shows. We always joked on how many paintings and where she could put them.
My sincere sympathy to all the family. Yvonne always said she loved and appreciated all that you did for her.

In loving memory of my very Special Friend Yvonne
To a beautiful soul whom I have known since 1987, a wonderful bond of friendship was created.
Thank you for being a constant in my life from those early days until now, across four decades you have always remained a constant.
Yvonne was a unique tapestry of life’s joys, challenges and growth; she lived with purpose, passion, heart and determination.
Yvonne and I have witnessed and supported every version of ourselves over 40 years.
Losing you feels like a part of my foundation has gone. Yet, I find myself deeply grateful and privileged to have known you.
To have a soul so truly good, and to have held that bond for as long, is such a precious gift.
Yvonne will never be truly gone as I will speak her name and the stories she told. I will carry her laughter and kindness with the lessons she taught me for the rest of my life.
You will always be in my heart.
To finish – an Irish proverb:
“A good friend is like a four-leaf clover. Hard to find and lucky to have.”
Thank you for being a truly wonderful friend.
Dear and caring friend to Helen (dec), Debbie and Jill. Yve will be greatly missed.
Yvonne was such a beautiful Lady always happy to see me and always made me feel welcome in her presence. Such a sad loss for her family as she was very much loved. RIP beautiful lady
A truly lovely lady who left a lasting impression on me. Gone too soon.
A remarkable woman-a one-off.
A privilege to have known her & greatly saddened at her loss.
It is with much sadness that Moonee Valley City Council pays tribute to former Citizen of the Year, Yvonne Kernan, who passed on 26 December 2025.
Yvonne was recognised in 2013 for her significant contribution to our local community, particularly Ascot Vale.
She was a driving force behind the Ascot Vale Residents Action Group and volunteered on several Council committees and as a workshop participant for many years. Yvonne helped shape local neighbourhoods by lending her clear and community focused insights to critical planning matters and policy development.
Yvonne is remembered with great affection as a voice of reason and wit, tireless and fearless, warm, and welcoming.
Mayor Dr Rose Iser paid tribute to Yvonne:
“Yve is remembered by her many friends as a prescient and determined force for good in the world; advocating tirelessly for the rights of others with her strong sense of social justice and belief in community life. She has made an impact and will be missed.”
In the late 1980s, she was an early member of the Essendon Legal Service Committee. She returned to the organisation when it was renamed Moonee Valley Community Legal Service as a Board member. Yvonne was later honoured for her years of service and granted Life Membership.
She was also a member of the Essendon Historical Society and involved with the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria.
We extend our condolences to all those who knew Yvonne, especially her family and friends.
