Home-Based Death Care

What is home-based death care?

Whether you live in Melbourne, Country Victoria, the Surf Coast Region or beyond, with our carefully selected equipment we can support your decision to care for your family member in your own home. By keeping your person’s body cool, you can comfortably care for them yourself, knowing we are right there with you, supporting you through every step.

We encourage, allow and provide space for you to take all the time you need to adjust to the death and to gently begin the preparation of your person’s body for the funeral. With our gentle assistance, you can wash, dress, and prepare them in your own time and in your own way. Our professional team can be as involved as much or as little as you desire.

We are on-call 24 hours a day if you require urgent assistance with the care of your person.

Holistic Home-Based Death Care

(Does not include a funeral service)

This offering is for people needing support to keep their person at home after death. You will receive the experienced care of your Natural Grace Home Funeral Guide for up to 3 days. All care is to be provided during business hours. (See below for after-hours surcharge.)

Our offer includes:

  • Pre-planning conversation if desired,
  • Home-based death care specialist advice and guidance,
  • Natural body care products,
  • Mortuary care as needed,
  • Ritual wash and dressing of your person,
  • Specialist ice packs and insulated blanket hire,
  • 24-hour phone support for 3 days and
  • One support visit if needed.

Transfer from hospital, hospice, or aged care to home (business hours) –

Transfer from hospital, hospice, or aged care to home (after hours) –

Transfer from Coroner into our care for mortuary care and then to home (business hours only) –

Travel surcharge outside our operating area –

 $3.50 per km

After Hours Fees:

Attendance for any service occurring after hours – additional fee applies –

The next step is to decide who will care for your family member after the time at home. You will need to decide on cemetery arrangements, and you may wish to hold a funeral ceremony or memorial service.

Should you wish to engage an alternate Funeral Director, our service to you will be complete at the time you ask us to come and collect our equipment. Please call us prior to the alternate Funeral Director coming to transfer your family member.

Home-Based Death Care
& Farewell From Home Ceremony

This beautiful offering is designed for families or communities who wish to care for their family member or friend at home over a period of up to 3 days and who wish to farewell them with a home ceremony. This offering includes support and guidance for washing, anointing, dressing and shrouding rituals; guidance for creating a sacred space; time for family and friends to gather and hold vigil; and support to hold a farewell ceremony as your person leaves home for the last time. It also includes funeral administration and attendance to all legal paperwork.

This offering includes:

  • All day everyday care, support, and love from an experienced and compassionate Holistic Funeral Director who is also a specialist  home funeral guide and who is specifically assigned to you and your family.
  • Facilitation of the ritual washing, anointing, dressing, and shrouding.
  • Natural body care products.
  • Home-based specialist natural mortuary care.
  • Specialist ice packs and insulated blanket hire.
  • 24-hour phone support and one home visit.
  • Facilitation of the farewell from home ceremony.
  • Support from our care team for funeral administration and arrangements.
  • Cemetery bookings.
  • Registration of the death with the appropriate authorities (Births, Deaths & Marriages, Services Australia including Centrelink, DVA and Medicare).
  • After funeral care including assistance with the care of ashes and/or assisting with sourcing suppliers for a headstone.
