Sacred Vigils and Farewells

A vigil is a time for familiy and community to be with your person one last time, before the funeral, burial, or cremation.

For families across Newcastle, Port Stephens, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter Central Coast region, Natural Grace offers quiet, sacred vigil support, in our Beresfield Sanctuary or in your own home.

There is no right or wrong way to hold a vigil.
We are here to support whatever feels meaningful, shaped gently around your family’s wishes and needs.

Holding Vigil

Your person will have been dressed and prepared by our care team and ready for you to sit with when you arrive. You will have exclusive use of the Sanctuary for up to 2 hours to hold vigil.

You are welcome to bring music, flowers, musical instruments, books, art materials, special items to gift your loved person or simply bring yourself.

Additional time will be automatically charged at $395 per hour or part thereof.

Ritual Vigil

You may wish to be involved in the ritual of washing, anointing, and dressing your much-loved family member or friend. You will have exclusive use of the Sanctuary for up to 3 hours to hold vigil in any way you feel is right for you. You may choose an hour of washing and dressing with one or two people followed by 2 hours of a community vigil or any combination of time up to 3 hours.

You are welcome to bring music, flowers, musical instruments, books, art materials, special items to gift your loved person or simply bring yourself.

Additional time will be automatically charged at $395 per hour or part thereof.

Viewing Time

Viewings are a brief opportunity to see your person on the funeral day. A viewing can be held either prior to the ceremony at the funeral venue or for half an hour at the Sanctuary prior to departure for the funeral venue.
