Rachana, I’m sorry to only learn of your passing now, the day after your service, as I would have loved to have shared in celebrating you but I shall watch the recording when it is uploaded. You marked a huge transformation in my life, which formed a spiritual awakening and for the first time, I felt what it is to sit in circle with women and receive permission to feel. I love you. I loved you. I appreciate you so much and how you also guided my dear late friend Mirabai, the woman who referred you to me. Your Women’s Mysteries Retreat was my initiation into breathwork, shamanism and an awakening of a part of me that informs who I am and how I work since. So much love. So much love. I am sobbing. You really positively affected my life and I’m very grateful. Love you. Thank you.
I spent seven years living on the property in Steels Creek as a teenager. Some years later I was devastated to learn of the bushfire, and that my former home was no more. But I was more devastated at the loss of the connection to the land, for the people who were there and that Rachana and others had worked so hard to make a safe retreat for people to come to heal, meditate, and celebrate life. I was moved to hear that a memorial service had later taken place in Steels Creek after Daricha’s passing, of which many of my family attended.
I watched the live stream today, and saw many familiar faces and loved ones.
Rachana, It was lovely to hear the stories of the time before I knew you, to reflect and remember on the times during, and to hear the path taken after.
You meant a lot to not just my own mother, but to the mothers of thousands of people you helped to arrive on the planet – it is clear that your tireless support and dedication to those around you and the wider community is strongly felt.
From watching every speech it is evident that without any doubt that your work will continue, and your living memory will be in the hearts and minds of many people for many years to come, including all the women you helped and supported.
On behalf of my own family and the families of many others, thank you, and may you travel well into the next.

Oh Rachana, how you opened my eyes to the beauty and gift in being a woman; my heart because it needed it; my mind to very different Truths; and my love for the richness and fulness of a truly conscious birth. Dearest Rachana, having known you over many years through trainings and the early years of developing The Centre for Holistic Integration, I can now look back in admiration for the strength of spirit and determination your guidance had upon all of us. Rachana is a much-loved member of the birth community. Her book, Lotus Birth, has been such essential reading for women planning empowered births – many of whom, like me, found this central to healing previous birth trauma and honouring our babies, bodies and birth.
Though we have been Facebook friends across many years, I only had the pleasure of meeting Rachana in-person once at a homebirth conference – it was a chance to thank her for her work and to explain its positive impact to our family. She was as lovely, calm and generous in real life as she is online.
